Coffee w/ a splash of humility please!

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to walk in to your local coffee spot in the morning and load up on not only your choice of java for the day but also a sprinkle of your most needed abilities or attributes for the day? For the seven dollars I pay for a cup of my favorite dirty chai w/almond milk, you would think it would come with a little more!!

I would ask for humility. Everyday. I thought about maybe patience or strength or kindness but I think if I got a shot of humility, I would automatically ensue the others. You see to me, humility means; I remember that you and I are the same. That I am no better and you are part of my family, my spiritual and/or global family. So regardless of how you treat me or others as I observe you, I remember that you may have just been through hell and you forgot not to hurt others as a result. If you cut me off, or forget to hold the door for me, instead of making a noise or get an ugly look on my face, I remember that I've had those days too! As I try to make a living and you treat me like I'm less than you, I remember that someone must have treated you that way and you forgot that you need to change that behavior.

When I watch the news and sit in disbelief about another bombing or domestic dispute gone wrong, I stop and pray and remember that we live in a fallen world and some people forgot where they came from. They forgot they were created in love and are love. I remember that someone probably hurt them really bad and they don't even know how to get back to their birthright.

As I head into the marketplace and run against other strong leaders or my competition, I remember that I can learn from you!

Regardless of how you treat me, I will respect you, learn from you, speak kindly about you, and never feel jealous or competitive towards you. You and I may offer the same product or service but we deliver it in very different ways. There is plenty of business and people to serve. I am happy you are here doing your thing! In fact, let's collaborate so as a collective whole, we can serve more people!

When I deal with my family, I will remember that you may still look at me and remember my mistakes therefore missing that I have changed. I am no longer who I once was so if I've hurt you in the past, please start a conversation with me about that so we can begin to heal it. I will remember that you may not want to heal or change and you want to remain stuck in your old thought process. You have that right. I will remember that right and not engage in conversations that cause strife between us because I care about you. I will also remind myself, that I have judged too.

I may have been too proud of myself and forgot what you are going through. I humbly apologize if any of the above are true.

Because I am a person that enjoys meeting people and "putting myself out there" I do meet a lot of unique people. I've talked with disabled veterans, doctors, stay at home moms, divorced men & women, millennials, and the homeless. Everyone has a story and that story has shaped how they move through the world.

Please Lord, just cover me in humility so that as I meet with your cherished ones, I see them just how you see them. Let them see me as flawed and imperfect as well and allow us to just respect each other as family. We don't have to dress the same, we don't have to agree on the weather or politics we can agree to just be kind.

Yes, Barista, I'll have a Venti Dirty Chai w/ Almond Milk and an extra super duper shot of Humility. And what the hell, throw in a few sprinkles of love, kindness, and don't forget the cinnamon!!
